A review of: Camouflage by Joe Haldeman

My well worn copy from my local library.

So this was my intro to Haldeman.

Let me start with my favorite quote from this book...“Russ...you were f%%%ing an alien from another planet. That’s probably illegal in Samoa.”

I’ll be saying “that’s probably illegal in Samoa” to people about everything for at least two weeks. I think what really grabbed me the most about this book was the pace and overall writing style. Could some of the main characters, like Russ, have used a little more development earlier on? Yeah, probably. Once the action started midway through the book I felt like he wasn’t the same person.

Overall though, for the pace, fun story, and the way he explored the point of view of the real protagonist.

And I definitely didn’t call the last 2 pages...I was way off.

I read several reviews that said this was like bastardized mix of other works, or how he was picked for a Nebula award. I mean, sure. There probably are better works out there, but this was fun and kinda positive. I can’t knock that. A win in my book.
