A review of The Cave and the Cathedral: How a Real-Life Indiana Jones and a Renegade Scholar Decode

Writer's picture: jonsjons

This book by Amir Aczel is a great discussion on the paleolithic cave art found in France and Spain. This subject has admittedly snagged my interest lately. I find it fascinating that humans explored such treacherous places to create art.

This is the author's interpretation of the meaning behind their art. In my own personal opinion, I have to agree that it doesn't have to have a shamanistic meaning. I do find it interesting that the animals known to have been hunted through bone fragment finds are sparse in these paintings and depictions.

This was easily a four star book for me.
