A review of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

Where to start...

It's definitely provoking, I'll say that. The book is rather short for such an a deep subject that is typically written esoterically, by and for other evolutionary anthropologists. I don't mean the book is too short- rather that it's digestible and his opinions/theories are understandable.

This takes an interesting stance in the theory that our imaginations and our ability to communicate allowed us to tell stories, and in-turn allowed society's to grow. I'm not saying that I buy into it completely, but the idea does make sense when one looks back historically to see that both religion and exchange of services and goods (think money here) helped bring people togeather. At the end of the day, there are some real intangibles holding current societies up... like money and religion.

I have to give him credit, this was an interesting read even if you don't agree with all of his theories.
