1st Chapter Down: “Seasons of Misery” by Kathleen Donegan

Writer's picture: jonsjons

Let me start off by saying that I’ve been hitting a couple pages at a time for a while and just started on this with some focus. There’s a good bit of direct copy from letters and what not written by the folks at the center of each chapter. For instance, John White talking about uncertainty of whom was friend or foe. Honestly, this book puts the mindset, drive, and purpose behind what the original colonists into perspective.

Chapter 1 primarily focuses on the lost colony of Roanoke. What I really get from the foreword are you and the first chapter is this: the entire “American“ initialization and mindset is all the derivative of horrible conditions, terror, and constant death. I’ll update on this read as time permits. The first half of the first chapter is a little tough to get through, but it definitely picks up after that.
